A few weekends ago, C. and I went to the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. The regular collection is awesome (Piet Mondrian, Henry Moore, David Smith), but we were there to see the Suprasensorial: Experiments in Light, Color and Space exhibit. This was one of the “coolest” art exhibits I’ve ever been to. Some of the installations seemed like something from a trendy nightclub.

Suprasensorial will run until May 13. I highly recommend running/spinning/dancing in Jesus Rafael Soto’s “Blue Penetrable BBL” nylon string installation.

Hare Christmas Maharishi Hunter Stabler

I’m not quite sure how my obsession with Hunter Stabler hasn’t surfaced on tumblr yet, but it is definitely time.

I based an entire semester’s worth of drawings off of his intricate drawings and cut paper works. I even tried my hand at doing this kind of detail work with cut paper for awhile.

I was most heavily influenced by Hare Christmas Maharishi, and in fact did a series of drawings with architectural elements such as columns and bricks developing a human skull.

If you’re ever at the Torpedo Factory, look for this dude (Curtis Blues?). He gave Emmett some maracas and had Cora’s toes tapping in her stroller in no time! He even made up lyrics about Emmett’s monkey backpack.

PS: seriously give him money. He heckled some people who were videotaping and photographing him without paying up…

instead of using actual spray cans…some artist are just cleaning dirt off of certain areas to make their masterpieces. and they are calling it reverse graffiti. kind of brilliant.

This is pretty awesome. Everyone who draws knows the eraser can be more important than the charcoal or graphite… so cool to see “drawing with an eraser” blown-up.
